The Swift Current Broncos lost a rookie game 3-2 to the host Regina Pats to open the Western Hockey League pre-season on Tuesday.
2025 first-round pick Cohenn Rotar led the Broncos with a goal and an assist. Jaxon Dean also scored for the Broncos to open the scoring. Easton Pitz and Luke Huska added assists.
Three different goaltenders played a period each for the Broncos. Wyatt Riemer stopped all 11 shots he faced in the first period. Delano Pockar made five saves on six shots and Max Davis made seven saves on nine shots.
Braden Hordichuk scored twice in the third period to lift the Pats to the win. Cohen Handby also scored for the home team.
Dawson Sheehan and Fletcher MacDonald combined for 22 saves on 24 shots for the Pats.
The Broncos will host the Saskatoon Blades on Friday at 7 p.m. to continue the pre-season.
