The Swift Current Innovation Federal Credit Union Wildcats were the better team in game two of the Saskatchewan Female U18 AAA Hockey League championship series, but it still wasn’t enough to keep their season alive. ‘
Aura Sembalerus stopped all 34 shots she faced to lead the Sharks to a 3-0 victory.
The game was scoreless for over 43 minutes until Sarah McNabb broke past the Wildcats defense for the opening goal. Brooke Weber added a pair of unassisted goals in the final 3:48 of the game, including an empty net goal with only one second left on the clock in front of a packed S3 West Arena in Swift Current.
Emilee Klapak made 18 saves on 20 shots for the Wildcats.
The Sharks had won game one 6-1 on Saturday in the Battlefords.
The young Wildcats (18-10-0-2) also placed second in the regular season behind the Sharks (25-1-3-1), who ran away with top spot. Both teams were chasing their first Fedoruk Cup since the league was formed in 2006-07.
