U18 AAA Wildcats win semi-final opener

The Swift Current Innovation Federal Credit Union Wildcats opened the Saskatchewan Female U18 AAA Hockey League semi-final series with a convincing 5-2 win over the visiting Regina Rebels on Saturday.

The Wildcats got goals from five different skaters as they scored the opening three goals and never looked back. Sienna Watson and Iralyn Calkins led the Wildcats with one goal and one assist apiece, while Reese Kampen added two assists.

Laynee Rondeau, Hayden Hilbig, and Raela Packet also scored. Emily McCleary, Piper Arntsen, Ella Schenher, and Harper Kampen all added assists. Ashley Vezeau made 26 saves in the win.

Morgan Robertson made 33 saves for the Rebels. The Rebels got power play goals from Jade Olszewski and Darby Marshall.

The second-seeded Wildcats will look to close out the best-of-three series on Monday in Regina.

The top-ranked Battlefords Sharks opened the other semi-final series with a 7-2 win over the Saskatoon Stars.
