Broncos lose on late goal

The Swift Current Broncos were seconds away from securing a point against the visiting Medicine Hat Tigers on Friday. 

The Central Division leading Tigers scored with 28.2 seconds remaining in regulation when Liam Ruck scored to break a 1-1 deadlock. The late goal spoiled a 48-save performance from Archer Cooke as he fell to 2-6-2-0 since joining the Broncos. 

The Broncos were outshot 22-4 in the first period as they struggled to gain any sort of offensive zone foothold. Markus Ruck scored the lone goal with 2:44 remaining in the stanza as he found himself all alone for his 13th goal of the season.

The Broncos tied the game 5:12 into the middle stanza when captain Hudson Darby found a rebound and knocked it into an empty net for his 12th goal of the season.

Jordan Switzer made 15 saves to improve to 23-6-1-2 for the Tigers. Both teams finished zero-for-four on the power play.

The Broncos fell to 12-34–3-0 in the 2-1 loss, while Medicine Hat improved to 35-9-3-3.

The Broncos will return the visit to Medicine Hat on Saturday.
