U18 AAA Wildcats sweep Stars

The Swift Current Innovation Federal Credit Union Wildcats took a stranglehold on second spot in the Saskatchewan Female U18 AAA Hockey League with two road wins over the Saskatoon Stars.

Saturday, the Wildcats edged the Stars 3-2 when Emilee Klapak made 24 saves in the win to improve to 10-2-0.

Iralyn Calkins, Raela Packet, and Ella Schenher all scored. Kapri Darby, Sienna Watson, and Charlize Hillmer added assists.

Bret Allan and Danelle Steffen replied with power play goals for the Stars. Adriana Bashnick made 16 saves in the loss.

Sunday, the Wildcats followed up with a 2-1 win when they outshot the Stars 37-18. They took the lead with a Schenher goal assisted by Reese Kampen and Raela Packet. Hillmer scored a shorthanded goal late in the first period that held up as the game winner.

Sadie Green replied with a power play goal for the Stars in the third period.

Ashley Vezeau earned the win with 17 saves. Tarynn Sutter took the loss with 35 saves.

The Wildcats improved to 13-5-0-1, while Saskatoon fell to 9-6-1-1 in fourth spot.

The Wildcats will host the third-place Regina Rebels on Wednesday at 8 p.m. at S3 West Arena.

The Wildcats will visit the Stars again on Saturday and then visit the league-leading Battlefords Sharks on Sunday.
