
The Swift Current Broncos allowed three unanswered goals in the third period of a 6-4 loss to the Edmonton Oil Kings.
The Broncos struck first when Hyde Davidson found some space on the back door and jumped in to score in his first game as a Broncos 9:14 into the first period. They added to the lead when Trae Wilke found the top shelf for his 11th goal. Edmonton replied 35 seconds later with an Andrew O’Neill deflection of a point shot for a 2-1 Broncos lead after one period.
The Oil Kings tied the game 4:18 into the middle stanza with a shorthanded goal from Gavin Hodnett on a lengthy three-on-two rush. It was the eighth shorthanded goal of the season for the Oil Kings and the seventh shorthanded marker allowed by the Broncos. The Broncos replied with their own shorthanded goal from Trae Wilkie on a lengthy breakaway for the team’s third shorthanded goal of the season. The Oil Kings tied the game again when they knocked a puck off a Bronco stick and into the net for a Miroslav Holinka goal. The Broncos regained the lead with a power play goal from Jace McFaul on a one-timer from the top of the face-off circle to close the period scoring.
The Oil Kings tied the game again 31 seconds into the third period with an outstanding effort from Holinka for his second goal of the game. They took their first lead 28 seconds later off the stick of Landon Hanson. The Oil Kings closed the scoring with an empty net goal from Lukas Sawchyn with 1:05remaining in regulation.
The Broncos fell to 9-27–2-0, while Edmonton improved to 27-7-3-1 with their sixth straight win.
Archer Cooke fell to 1-2-1-0 with 30 saves for the Broncos. Ethan Simcoe improved to 15-3-2-1 with 14 saves for the Oil Kings.
The Broncos will visit the Prince Albert Raiders on Friday and host the Red Deer Rebels on Saturday.
