The Swift Current Broncos got goals from seven different skaters to snap a 16-game losing streak with a 7-4 win over the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Saturday.
“It feels great,” said rookie Jayden Oleskiw after the win. “A couple weeks here, haven’t got a win, but to finally get one feels good.”
The Broncos rookie line gave the Broncos a boost of energy early and were rewarded with a Brennan Brown goal on a rebound 11:01 into the period. The Broncos doubled the lead 1:40 later with a Zach Pantelakis goal when he kept the puck on a two-on-one. They added to the lead 1:04 later when Parker Rondeau undressed a man in the slot and lifted a puck into the top corner for his fifth goal of the season.
The Hurricanes got on the board 2:43 into the middle stanza when Andrew Petruk scored a breakaway goal. The Broncos responded 45 seconds later when Sawyer Dingman collected a rebound and calmly deposited his eighth goal of the season. They added to the lead midway through the period when Jaxen Gauchier scored a highlight reel goal with a diving shot from the slot that pinged off the bar and in for his ninth goal and a 5-1 lead. The Hurricanes cut into the lead with a Nathan Maloney goal with 6:20 remaining in the period. They quickly added a goal from Hudson Kibblewhite only 27 seconds later. The Broncos responded with a shorthanded goal from captain Hudson Darby when he kept the puck on a lengthy two-on-one for his eighth goal of the season.
Lethbridge made it a two-goal game midway through the third period with a five-hole goal from Kai Anderson. The Broncos responded with a breakaway goal from Oleskiw to close the scoring.
“I feel like everyone bought in to the game plan,” said Oleskiw. “Lines one to four were buzzing out there.”
Archer Cooke made 20 saves in his first WHL win to improve to 1-1-1-0. Koen Cleaver fell to 7-16-0-1 with 11 saves on 16 shots over 30:39. Leif Oaten made seven saves on nine shots the rest of the way.
The Broncos improved to 9-26–2-0, while Lethbridge fell to 12-26-0-1.
Oleskiw’s line of himself, Brown, and Aidan Sexsmith provided a spark in the win including the opening goal from Brown.
“We’re just trying to play physical, get pucks in deep, just doing what a fourth line normally does. I feel like we’ve been playing really good these past couple games. We just gotta keep it up going forward here.”
Oleskiw had scored his first WHL goal the previous night in Lethbridge.
“It felt really good to get the monkey off my back after quite a big stretch without a goal. I just have to keep doing things that I know how to do and keep working hard.”
He was happy to see his team emerge from the streak with their first win since Nov. 14, 2025.
“It was just staying as a team, not getting away from what we are as a team. We just keep pushing and keep playing hard.”
The Broncos will be back at home on Wednesday when they host the Edmonton Oil Kings.
