Broncos lose to conference leaders

The Swift Current Broncos returned to Western Hockey League action with a 7-1 loss to the visiting Prince Albert Raiders on Saturday.

Missing four defenseman, the Broncos lost their 12th straight game and fell to 0-4 against the Eastern Conference leading Raiders. The Broncos have been outscored 23-5 at the midway point of the season series.

The Raiders took a 2-0 lead with goals from Daxon Rudolph and Brayden Dube only 1:41 apart. The Broncos replied with a Trae Wilke goal on a perfect centering pass from Jaxen Gauchier. The Raiders replied with a power play goal from Riley Boychuk for a 3-1 lead after one period.

The Broncos held the Raiders off for 17:02 to open the second period before Alisher Sarkenov and Rudolph struck for goals 2:01 apart.

The Raiders closed out the win with third-period goals from Maddix McCagherty and Linden Burnett.

Joey Rocha took the loss with 40 saves to fall to 8-14-0-0. Dimitri Fortin made 17 saves to improve to 12-21-0.

The Broncos fell to 8-24-1-0, while Prince Albert improved to 24-5-4-0

The Broncos will visit the Raiders on Monday.
