Wildcats compete at Mandi Schwartz Memorial Tournament

A pair of Swift Current Wildcats hockey teams took part in the Mandi Schwartz Memorial Tournament this week.

The Swift Current U18 AAA Innovation Federal Credit Union Wildcats finished with one win, two losses, and two ties at the tournament.

The Wildcats earned an early 3-1 win over the Regina Rebels on Thursday morning when Emilee Klapak made 27 saves.

Charlize Hillmer had a goal and an assist, while Ella Schenher and Laynee Rondeau also scored. Jalaa Moore Jagow had two assists, while Raela Packet and Madden Rublee added single helpers.

The Wildcats finished two-for-five on the power play. The Rebels scored once on four man-advantages. 

The Wildcats tied the Edmonton Jr Oilers 5-5 that evening when Ashley Vezeau made 45 saves.

Charlize Hillmer scored a hat trick, including a goal with 14 seconds remaining in regulation to tie the game. Moore Jagow and Iralyn Calkins also scored.

Reese Kampen, Piper Arntsen, Hayden Hilbig, Stevie Christiaens, Schenher, and Packet all added assists.

Friday, the Wildcats tied the Westman Wildcats 2-2. Rublee and Packet scored with an assist from Hillmer. Klapak made 19 saves in the game.

Saturday, the Wildcats lost 3-0 to the St. Albert Slash. Vezeau made 32 saves on 35 shots.

The Wildcats lost 4-3 in overtime to the Lloydminster Steelers on Sunday. Klapak made 36 saves over 78:43 of work. Schenher led the Wildcats with one goal and one assist. Rondeau and Moore Jagow also scored. Olivia Ferguson, Rublee, Christiaens, and Packet all added assists.

The U18 AAA Wildcats will visit the Rebels in Regina on Wednesday. They will visit the Weyburn Gold Wings on Saturday and Sunday to wrap up 2025.

The Swift Current Swift Hockey Co U15 AA Wildcats won twice and lost twice in Avonlea and Milestone.

They opened the weekend with a 7-4 win over the South East Gold Wings on Thursday morning. Hope Hunter led the Wildcats with three goals and two assists. Brooklyn Masse, Elenore Weinbender, and Kysa Getzinger all added a goal and an assist. Madyson Watson and Rya Getzinger each had two assists. Makenna Fox also scored. Luxx Williams, McKayla Heggestad, and Hallie Watteyne all added an assist. Avairy Hein made 15 saves in the win.

The U15 AA Wildcats followed up with a 4-1 win over Red Deer. They were outshot 25-16, but got 24 saves rom Finnley Chubaty.

Hunter, Kennady Smith, Weinbender, and Rya Getzinger all scored. Brielle Schneider and Fox added assists. 

Friday, the Wildcats lost 7-0 to the Regina Rebels White. Hein made 36 saves in a losing cause.

Saturday, they lost 5-4 in overtime to the host Notre Dame Hounds.

Chubaty made 28 saves on 33 shots over 77:06 of work.

Williams registered a goal and an assist, while Hunter and Kysa Getzinger each had two assists. Weinbender, Rya Getzinger, and Watteyene also scored. Smith added one assist.

The U15 AA Wildcats will return to league action on Friday in Warman.
