The Swift Current Broncos lost the opening game of their U.S. Division road trip 8-5 to the host Seattle Thunderbirds on Wednesday. The Broncos led 3-1 and 4-2 but were unable to hold onto the win.
Jaxen Gauchier scored twice for Broncos and now has four goals in as many games since joining the team. Noah Kosick and Trae Wilke also scored for the Broncos. Joey Rocha made 36 saves on 43 shots.
Simon Lovsin scored twice for the Thunderbirds, who also got goals from Ashton Cumby, Coster Dunn, Sawyer Mayes, Brock England, Radim Mrtka, and Matej Pekar. Marek Sklenicka made 11 saves on 15 shots over 29:16. Grayson Malinoski earned the win with 12 saves on 13 shots over the final 30:44.
The Broncos fell to 8-14-1-0 with their third straight loss. Seattle improved to 11-8-2-0.
The Broncos will visit the league leading Everett Silvertips on Friday in game two of their six-game road trip.
