Broncos defeat Pats in Rookie Game

A pair of Swift Current Broncos goaltending hopefuls led the team to a pre-season-opening win over the Regina Pats on Wednesday.

Gull Lake’s Berney Weston made 27 saves on 28 shots over 31:52 for the host Broncos. Aiden Eskit came on and stopped all 18 shots he faced over the final 28:08.

Tanner Massey opened the scoring in the rookie game 2:22 into regulation on a nice set-up from Gull Lake’s Jamie Kirwan. The Broncos doubled the lead in the second period with a Jayden Simpson goal.

The Pats scored their only goal when 2025 first overall draft pick Maddox Schultz scored in the second period. Drake Mooney took the loss with 13 saves on 15 shots. Kai Zurowski stopped all 12 shots he faced.

The Broncos will host the Moose Jaw Warriors on Friday at 7 p.m.
