A brand new event will fill a glaring gap in the August event calendar this weekend when Cowboys & Chrome takes place on Saturday at Kinetic Park in Swift Current.
Highlighting the event will be BRC Bull Riding in the Magnus Newland Arena at 2 p.m.
“Bull Riders Canada is the sanctioned event on Saturday afternoon. They’re high calibre bull riders. We had a BRC event, I believe in 2023, that was really well received with the same stock contractor and the same circuit, so it should be a really good event,” said Megan Muri, Event Manager, Swift Current Ag & Ex.
The Swift Current Stock Car Association will also hold races at 5 p.m. in the grandstand.
A cabaret, featuring Fox and the Hounds, will begin at 9 p.m. in the Saloon.
“The only event that minors can’t attend is the cabaret. The bull riding and stock cars are ticketed events, but there are free events around the grounds,” explained Muri.
Food trucks will be available in the parking lot from 1-10 p.m. Other events include a Show & Shine, a photo scavenger hunt in Doc’s Town and the final day of the Southwest Open Art Exhibition in the West Wing Gallery from 1–5 p.m.
Muri expects eight food trucks on Saturday with options such as Blue Angel Donut Company and Lemon Heaven from Moose Jaw, Siddhu’s Rolling Kitchen, Smoke’s Poutinerie, Swift Splice and Slice, Sugar Rush Candy Floss, Red Swan Pizza, and BeaverTails.
Tickets for bull riding, stock car racing, and the cabaret are available online at swiftcurrentex.com.
“The Ag & Ex was looking for a new fundraiser. Some of our older fundraisers just weren’t doing it anymore. We were looking for a way to refresh that and we thought what we’re good at is planning parties and rodeo events, so this kind of came together over the last winter. It should take over the spot of our old spring trade show. It helps with funding for stuff like the free family entertainment at the Fair, Doc’s Town, and our education components,” said Muri.
“We’re just looking forward for folks to come out and send off their summer with a bang,” added Muri.
