Canada Summer Games continue in St. John’s

Six Southwest athletes are currently in action at the 2025 Canada Summer Games in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador.

Swift Current’s Griffin Striker is representing Saskatchewan in men’s soccer. Saskatchewan lost 2-0 to Ontario on August 10 and then lost 3-0 to British Columbia on August 11. They will play Yukon on Thursday afternoon in a qualification game.

Swift Current’s Mason Fauser will return to action in men’s baseball on Friday in a semi-final game against Quebec on Friday.

They opened the tournament with an 8-1 win over Alberta on August 10.

On Monday, Saskatchewan defeated Quebec 10-5 and lost 10-2 to Ontario. They lost 2-0 to British Columbia on Tuesday.

Saskatchewan defeated Quebec 8-7 on Wednesday in a qualification game.

Four Southwest swimmers have been in the pool for Special Olympics Swimming events.

Swift Current’s Tate Zimmerman finished second in his heat in the 100 Metre Freestyle in 1:52.54 on Monday.

He was also second in his heat in the 50 Metre Breaststroke in 1:07.41 on Monday.

Tuesday, Zimmerman finished 14th overall in the 100 Metre Backstroke in 2:02.66 as he won his heat.

Zimmerman was third in heat on Wednesday in the 50 Metre Backstroke in 57.26 seconds.

Gull Lake’s Chayce Foster has had four events so far as well. Foster was third in his heat in the 100 Metre Freestyle in 2:05.40 on Monday. He was also third in his heat in the 50 Metre Breaststroke on Monday in 1:37.69. Foster was third in his heat in the 100 Metre Backstroke on Tuesday in 2:11.48. Foster won his heat on Wednesday in 56.35 seconds to place 15th overall in the 50 Metre Backstroke.

Swift Current’s Rahimay Priebe was third in her heat in the 100 Metre Freestyle on Monday in 1:46.72. She was also eighth in her heat in the 50 Metre Breaststroke in 1:02.24 on Monday. Tuesday, Priebe was eighth in her 100 Metre Backstroke heat in 2:29.38. Wednesday, Priebe was seventh in her heat in the 50 Metre Backstroke in 1:13.26. Swift Current’s Avery Underhill was fifth in her heat in the 50 Metre Breaststroke on Monday. She was also seventh in the 100 Metre Freestyle heat in 1:59.37 on Monday. Tuesday, Underhill was seventh in her heat in the 100 Metre Backstroke in 2:20.46.

Wednesday, Underhill was sixth in her heat in the 50 Metre Backstroke in 1:05.18.
