Southwest competitors were all over the pay window at the Herbert Stampede on August 1-3.
The Southwest took three of the top four spots in Junior Steer Riding. Maple Creek’s Cecil Baynton won the event with 73 points to collect $630. Waldeck’s Dawson Danberg was second with 72.5 points for $472. Maple Creek’s Luke Morehead finished fourth with 68.5 points for $157.
Maple Creek’s Walker Thomson tied for first in Novice Saddle Bronc with 71 points for $362.
The Southwest also had three cowgirls in the pay window in Junior Girls Barrel Racing in Herbert. Beechy’s Allee Kapeller finished in second in 15.84 seconds for $405. Stewart Valley’s Shaye Moen was third in 15.94 seconds for $270. Mankota’s Kiera Williamson finished fourth in 16.17 seconds for $135. Jolie Desmet (Wheatland County, AB) won the event in 15.71 seconds.
Stewart Valley’s Janet-Lynn Moen led the Southwest contingent in Ladies Barrel Racing in second spot in 15.55 seconds for $1,710. Mankota’s Karli Cowie wasn’t far behind in fourth spot in 15.69 seconds for $1,197. Maple Creek’s Kate Beierbach was fifth in 15.7 seconds for $940. Maple Creek’s Sayge Turcato finished seventh in 15.91 seconds for $427. Angela Tapp (Regina Beach) won the event in 15.47 seconds.
Maple Creek’s Danae Zieffle tied for second in Ladies Breakaway Roping in 3.9 seconds for $1,581. Maple Creek’s Lily Wilson tied for fourth in 4.2 seconds for $1,068. Hazenmore’s Tess Switzer tied for sixth in 4.6 seconds for $555. Amy Bowditch (Sylvania) won the event in 3.6 seconds.
Mankota’s Shawn Williamson was second in Tie Down Roping in 10.7 seconds for $1,282. Val Marie’s Colt Kornfeld was seventh in 19.1 seconds for $320. Logan Stewart (Carnduff) won the event in 10.0 seconds.
Waldeck’s Scott McLeod and Shamrock’s Kevin Turner tied for fifth in Team Roping in 6.8 seconds for $1,346. Riley Hayes (Sylvania) and Ty Ellis (Maymont) won the event in 4.9 seconds.
The Kyle Community Rodeo will be held on Saturday and Sunday.
