A total of six Southwest players were selected in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League Draft on June 10.
Maple Creek’s Finn Gustafson was selected 17th overall in the 2010-born draft by the Kindersley Klippers. Gustafson had 17 goals and 16 assists in 27 regular season games with the Swift Current Pure Chem U15 AA Broncos last season.
Gull Lake’s Jamie Kirwan was selected 17th overall in the 2009-born draft by the La Ronge Ice Wolves. He had 11 goals and 19 assists in 36 games for the Prairie Hockey Academy U17 Prep team last season.
Swift Current’s Kadyn Olfert was drafted 34th amongst 2009-born players by the Melville Millionaires. Olfert had five goals and 13 assists in 32 games with the Moose Jaw U18 AA Warriors last season.
Swift Current’s Jaxon Squires was taken 41st overall by Kindersley. He had six goals and 16 assists in 32 games with the Swift Current Southwest Sports U18 AA Broncos last season.
Kindersley drafted Lucky Lake’s Jake Hargrave with the 53rd pick in the 2009 draft. The dynamic defenseman had 11 goals and 29 assists in 41 games with the Home Hardware U18 AAA Legionnaires.
Melville also grabbed Swift Current’s Ryder Leshures with the 56th pick in the 2009-born draft. The mobile defenseman had 10 assists in 32 games with the U18 AA Broncos last season.
