The Swift Current Sonic U17 softball team won all four games to claim gold at the Macklin Tournament over the weekend.
The Sonic opened the tournament with a 14-3 win over Kindersley on Friday. They trailed 3-0 after two innings, but scored four runs in both the third and fourth innings and added six runs in the fifth inning to seal the win.
Anaiah Stechyshyn led the offense with three hits, including a home run, one stolen base, two runs scored, and five runs batted in. Surrey Lamotte added three hits, including a triple, one stolen base, three runs scored, and three RBIs.
Bree Pavely pitched three scoreless innings in relief, striking out five without allowing a hit or a walk.
The Sonic added a 12-2 win over the Saskatoon Selects Hendry on Saturday. Pavely had three hits, one stolen base, three runs scored, and one RBI. Brynn Haubrich doubled, tripled, walked, scored, and had one RBI. Mackenzie Smith singled twice, was hit by two pitches, scored twice, and had one RBI. Patience Hellman singled twice, scored, and had two RBIs.
Pavely also struck out eight over 3.2 innings in the start, allowing only two runs, one that was earned.
The Sonic won the semi-final 17-6 over the Saskatoon Selects 67’s. Pavely got the complete game victory. Serena Kochan had a single, a double, a triple, one walk, scored once, and knocked home four runs. Hellman, Kyra Strutt, and Taylor Schury also had three-hit games. Hellman scored four runs, while Strutt and Schury crossed home three times in the five-inning game.
The Sonic closed out the gold medal with a 7-4 win over the host Macklin Lakers. Pavely and Strutt combined to hold the Lakers to four hits over seven innings.
Lamotte hit a home run and finished with two hits, one stolen base, two runs scored, and four RBIs. Pavely singled, tripled, stole a base, and scored twice.
