Records fall at SWAC District Meet

A scorching day led to some blistering performances at the SWAC District Track and Field Meet in Swift Current on May 28.

Swift Current Comp. High School Ardens rookie Laynee Rondeau set two new Intermediate Girls records. She established a new 80 Metre Hurdles record in 12.15 seconds and an 800 Metre Run mark in 2:24.64.

Emily McCleary added two new records for the Ardens in Intermediate Girls as well. She ran the 100 Metre Dash in 12.40 seconds and added a 200 Metre Dash record in 25.59 seconds.

The SCCHS Colts’ Karlson Orthner set new records in two Junior Boys wheelchair races. He finished the 100 Metre Dash in 42.08 seconds and the 400 Metres in 3:15.63.

The Colts’ Kyler Duclos added a pair of Junior Boys records at the District meet on his home track. He ran the 100 Metres in 10.66 seconds and added the 200 Metre record in 22.15 seconds.

Lyla Thiessen set new records for the Ardens in Senior Girls action. She set a new 80 Metre Hurdles record in 11.58 seconds. She also set a new standard in Pole Vault after clearing the bar at 2.30 metres.

The Colts’ Carter Tuplin set a new record in the Senior Boys 100 Metre Hurdles in 13.30 seconds. Tuplin added a Pole Vault record at 3.30 metres.

Eastend’s Jace Egland established a new mark of 10.78 seconds in the Senior Boys 100 Metre Dash.

The Colts’ Elliot Jahnke set the Junior Boys 100 Metre Hurdles record in 13.62 seconds.

Swift Current’s Rowan Reimer set a new record in the Senior Boys 400 Metre Dash in 49.92 seconds.

The Ardens’ Mckenna Striker added a record in the Intermediate Girls Pole Vault at 2.20 metres.

The Colts’ Isaac Siemens added an Intermediate Boys Pole Vault record of 2.60 metres.

Swift Current’s Jacob Parkinson tied the Junior Boys Quad record with 2,025 points.

Gull Lake’s Ally Stusrud compiled 2,006 points for a new record in the Intermediate Girls Quad.

Swift Current’s Sawyer Plewis added a new Intermediate Boys Quad record with 1,857 points.

McCleary won all four of her events to win the Intermediate Girls aggregate title with 40 points, two points ahead of Rondeau.

Maple Creek’s Carson Watson and Swift Current’s Jesse Olson tied for the lead in the Intermediate standings with 28 points.

The Ardens’ Scotlyn Rogers won the Junior Girls title with 38 points. Duclos won all four of his events to claim the Junior Boys crown with the maximum 40 points.

Thiessen topped the Senior Girls standings with 38 points, while Egland accumulated 40 points to win Senior Boys.

The top two finishers in each event advanced to SHSAA Provincials at Gutheridge Field in Moose Jaw on June 6-7.
