Wildcats win home finale

The Swift Current Diamond Energy Wildcats defeated the Notre Dame Hounds 3-1 in their final home game of the Saskatchewan Female Midget AA Hockey League regular season on Wednesday.

Captain Maddy McCleary led the Wildcats with two points, including the game-winning goal on the power play late in the first period. Brooklyn Rublee also had two assists in the win. Rookie Paris Appel opened the scoring and Baylee Kirwan scored int an empty net for her 27th goal of the season. Kenedee Klevgaard and Sara Kendall also added assists.

Olivia Leier scored on the power for the Hounds in the third period to make it a one-goal game.

Amaya Giraudier made 31 saves to improve to 12-1 on the season. She leads the SFMAAAHL with a dazzling 1.15 goals against average and a .950 save percentage. Eva Filippova took the loss with 31 saves.

The Wildcats improved to 19-6-1-1 in second in the seven-team league, while the Hounds remain third with a 12-13-3-2 record.

The Wildcats will visit the last-place Weyburn Wings on Friday in their first of three road games in as many days to close out the regular season.
