RCMP reminding drivers to stop for school buses

The Swift Current Municipal RCMP would like to advise, and further remind motorists, that they MUST STOP for school buses when the school bus has the Stop Arm out with their flashing lights activated. This applies to either direction of travel on the roadway that the bus is stopped on, including one ways.

The Swift Current Municipal RCMP have had a number of complaints recently about vehicles failing to stop when required while children are being loaded or unloaded from school buses.

Any found violators could be charged under Sections 212(3) or 212(4) of the Traffic Safety Act for failing to stop either five meters in front of or five meters behind a school bus when required and receive a $360 fine plus any applicable points levied against their Driver’s Licence as administered by SGI.
