Former Swift Current Broncos netminder Joel Hofer made his debut at the IIHF World Junior Championship in the Czech Republic on Saturday.

Hofer played the final 37:42 against Russia as he allowed two goals on 22 shots in a 6-0 loss. Canada is now in a five-way tie in Group B with a 1-1 record.

Canada had defeated the United States 6-4 in their tournament opener. Nicolas Daws had started both games for Canada, but allowed eight goals in just over four periods of action.

Canada will face Germany on Monday and the host Czech Republic on Tuesday.
