Wildcats suffer first league loss

The Swift Current Diamond Energy Wildcats suffered their first Saskatchewan female Midget AAA Hockey League loss during a weekend trip to Saskatoon.

Saturday, the Wildcats dropped their first league game in a 2-1 loss to the host Stars.

They fired 34 shots on goal but were only able to get one puck past Arden Kliewer as they finished zero-for-five on the power play.

Cheyenne Jamieson took the loss with 17 saves on 19 shots.

Crystal Wale scored the only goal in the first period with assists from Ashlee Wolfe and Laiken Swan.

Makena Kushniruk scored both goals for the Stars in the second period, including a power play marker.

Sunday, the Wildcats returned to the win column with a 4-1 victory when they fired 39 shots on goal. Amaya Giraudier earned the win with 24 saves.

Sara Kendall led the way with two goals and one assist, while Brooklyn Rublee and Baylee Kirwan also scored. Samantha Thompson and Kenedee Klevgaard each picked up assists.

Emily Holmes replied for the Stars and Kliewer made 35 saves in a losing cause.

The Wildcats continue to lead the SFMAAAHL with an 8-1-1-0 record. The Stars sit fourth with a 5-7-0-2 mark.

Kendall continues to lead the league with 12 assists and 21 points in 10 games. Giraudier leads the league with a 5-0 record, a 0.80 goals against average and a .957 save percentage.

The Wildcats next league action will be on Dec. 14-15 when they host the Weyburn Wings.
