Ozar gets Team Canada tryout

A former Swift Current Home Hardware Legionnaires standout is among the 44 players invited to tryout for Team Canada West for the upcoming Junior A Challenge in Dawson Creek, BC. Owen Ozar will be in Calgary for the selection camp, which includes players from the five Junior A leagues in Western Canada.

The former Legionnaires captain is currently sixth in British Columbia Hockey League scoring with 33 points in 28 games with the Trail Smoke Eaters. The Prince Albert native had 28 points in 42 games last season before adding nine points in 12 playoff contests.

The 5’9’’ forward is committed to the University of Denver for 2021-22. He spent parts of three seasons in Swift Current, including 55 points in 42 games during his final season.

Also amongst the forward ranks is Swift Current Broncos prospect Finlay Williams. Williams was the Broncos top pick in the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft, 54th overall. He currently has 15 points in 13 games with the Prince George Spruce Kings in the BCHL. Williams is committed to the University of Michigan Wolverines for the 2021-22 season.

Amongst the defensemen invited to camp is young blueliner Corson Ceulemans who recently skated for Canada Black at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge. The Brooks Bandits product is considered one of the top prospects for the 2021 NHL Draft.

The 2019 World Junior A Challenge takes place on Dec. 7-15.
