Kelly Schafer has returned to the world curling scene with a new rink curling out of Swift Current. She is now the third on a rink skipped by Kristen Streifel as they look to make a name for themselves on the World Curling Tour.
Streifle and Schafer are joined by Edmonton’s Kalynn Park and Meadow Lake’s Dayna Demers.
They made their debut over the weekend at the 28-team Booster Juice Shoot-Out in Edmonton where they finished with a 3-2 record.
The Swift Current rink opened the event with an 8-2 loss to Winnipeg’s Darcy Robertson. They rebounded with a 9-1 win over Edmonton’s Kellie Stiksma before losing 7-6 to Japan’s Satsuki Fujisawa.
The Streifel rink finished the event with an 8-3 win over Winnipeg’s Theresa Cannon and a 6-1 victory over Edmonton’s Leslie Hammond.
Winnipeg’s Kerri Einarson defeated Calgary’s Chelsea Carey 7-2 in the championship game.
The Swift Current rink will return to WCT action at the Colonial Square Ladies Classic in Saskatoon on Sept. 27-30.
