The Swift Current Comp. Colts football team responded from a season opening loss with a 23-0 win over the visiting Moose Jaw AE Peacock Tornadoes under the lights.
The Colts improved to 4-2 in their annual Thursday Night Lights game as their defense held the Tornadoes off the scoreboard.
The Colts led 3-0 after one quarter before a nine-yard touchdown catch by lineman Leif Zeeb and a 37-yard catch and run major from Carson Letkeman. The Colts added a field goal from Ethan Kurtz for a 20-0 halftime lead.
The only score of the second half came on a field goal from Kurtz as the Colts defense got stop after stop.
The Colts finished with 437 yards of total offense, including 283 along the ground. The difference in the game was the game-break ability of Rhett Vavra who ran for 184 yards on seven carries and added 109 yards on two receptions.
The Colts defense was the other story as they held the Tornadoes to 251 yards of total offense, just one week after allowing 294 yards along the ground alone in a loss to Moose Jaw Central.
The Colts improved to 1-1 in the South Rural 3A 12-Man Football League. They will visit the league champion Yorkton Raiders next Saturday.
