Former Swift Current 57’s slugger Kyle MacDonald was drafted by the New York Yankees on Wednesday.

The 6’3’’, 240-pound first baseman was taken in the 27th round, 825th overall, by the Yankees.

The Mississauga, Ontario native played 35 games for the Swift Current Indians in 2016 and hit .240 with four home runs and 22 runs batted in. He added six RBI in nine playoffs games as the Indians swept their way to a league championship.

MacDonald returned the following season and hit .284 over 23 games while knocking out five home runs and eight doubles before an injury cut his season short.

MacDonald played last season for the Arkansas State Red Wolves and hit .301 with 12 doubles and five home runs during his Senior campaign.
