The Canadian Cowboys Association rodeo circuit opened the 2019 season with the Rambler Rodeo in Tisdale on April 19-20.
Waldeck’s Tyce and Tuftin McLeod got out to a quick start to the season in the roping events with a pair of top-three finishers each.
The McLeod brothers won Team Roping in 6.9 seconds to open the season with a $1,513 payday in the 19-team event. Hodgeville’s Ryan Stolson worked with Brett Gaube (Weyburn) to place sixth in Team Roping on 16.1 seconds.
Tyce McLeod added a second-place finish in Tie Down in 9.4 seconds for $496, while Tuftin was close behind tied for fourth in 10.7 seconds for $238. Stran Dunham (Souris, MB) won the even in 9.3 seconds.
Swift Current’s Ryan Palanuik got the season out to an outstanding start after he rode Juice for 77 points to win the eight-man Bareback field in Tisdale for a $486 payday.
Maple Creek’s Blake Link placed fourth in Bareback with a 68-point ride aboard Blaze for $243.
Cadillac’s Brooke Lang tied for fourth out of 53 cowgirls in Ladies Barrel Racing in 13.23 seconds for $708. Jordan Fitzhenry (Coaldale, AB) won the event in 12.92 seconds.
Maple Creek’s Lily Wilson placed third in Junior Girls Barrel Racing in 13.85 seconds for $189. Jewelian Cox (Prince Albert) won the event in 13.17 seconds.
Tyler Winters (Douglas, MB) won Saddle Bronc with a 78-point ride on Twister. Tyson Salmon (Stonewall, MB) won Bull Riding with 86 points on Joe Schmo. Joe King (Virden, MB) topped Steer Wrestling in 5.3 seconds. Casey Bear (Whitewood) won Novice Bareback and Keagan Crossman (Rosetown) topped Novice Saddle Bronc to round out the event winners.
The CCA will be in North Battleford this weekend. The CCA will return to the Southwest on May 24-25 in Mankota.
