Peewee Broncos eliminated from provincial playoffs

The Swift Current Southwest Terminal Broncos finished just one win short of a trip to the Peewee AA provincial championship series.

The Broncos lost game three of the provincial semi-final 6-2 on Wednesday to the host Prairie Storm in Balgonie. The Broncos had won game one 5-1, but dropped game two 3-2 on Sunday to set up the third and deciding game.

The Broncos were out-shot 42-23 as both teams failed to score on a combined 11 power play opportunities.

The Broncos led early on a Ryder Woods goal, but Ryan Zaremba scored twice for the Prairie Storm for a 2-1 lead after one period.

Jake Starke tied the game for the Broncos midway through the second period, but Kole Keen scored the eventual game-winner 33 seconds later while shorthanded. Jakob Boekelder made it 4-2 before the end of the middle stanza.

Zaremba completed his hat trick in the third period and Peyton Kostiuk added a shorthanded goal into an empty net to close the scoring.

Berney Weston took the loss in goal, while Easton Lee added a single helper.

Kaden Perron earned the win in goal for the Prairie Storm, who will now face the Warman Wildcats in the provincial championship series.

The Broncos had finished first in the regular season with a 15-5-5 record and eventually defeated Melville to win the South Sask Peewee Hockey League championship.
