The Swift Current Comp. Colts senior boys basketball team placed eighth out of 12 teams at a weekend tournament in North Battleford.
The Colts upset the Meadow Lake Carpenter Spartans 57-48 to open the tournament. Bren Medina led the Colts with 16 points, followed by 10 from Brock Wall and Rhett Vavra with seven.
They dropped their second game 92-70 to the Prince Albert Carlton Crusaders. Scott Joseph paced the offense with 12 points, followed 10 from Carl Soriano, and nine from Carlos Dungca.
The Colts then fell 58-53 to the Warman Wolverines. Joseph registered 17 points, while Aussie Wiebe added 12 and Vavra chipped in nine points.
The Colts concluded a four-game weekend with a 68-60 loss to North Battleford’s John Paul II Crusaders. Joseph led the Colts for a third straight outing with 14 points, Medina added 11 and Wall had a 10-point performance.
The Colts will be in Yorkton on March 15-16 for 5A SHSAA Regionals. The Colts will need a top-two finish at the eight-team event to advance to Hoopla the following weekend in Saskatoon.
