Broncos drop second straight to Tigers

The Swift Current Broncos wrapped up a seven-game home stand with a 3-1 loss to the visiting Medicine Hat Tigers on Friday.

The Broncos were outshot 19-6 in the opening period but the game was scoreless after 20 minutes.

The Tigers scored twice in the second period, beginning with a shorthanded goal from James Hamblin when he batted in a centering feed. Carson Hopwo deflected home a point shot to double the lead with his third goal of the season midway through the middle stanza.

Trevor Longo added an insurance goal for the Tigers 9:26 into the third period on a screened point shot with a delayed penalty upcoming. Ethan O’Rourke responded 1:03 later when he collected puck in the slot and fired into the top corner for his fifth goal of the season.

Riley Lamb took the loss with 43 saves to fall to 1-1-0-0 since joining the Broncos. Jordan Hollett improved to 13-12-0-0 with 23 saves.

The Broncos fell to 9-32-2-1, while Medicine Hat improved to 25-16-2-2 with their second win over the Broncos in Swift Current this season.

The two teams will rematch on Saturday in Medicine Hat.
