Laurels and Colts win Regionals

Four Southwest soccer teams were in provincial playoff action over the weekend as three of them advance to Provincials the following weekend.

The Herbert Laurels won both games at 1A Boys Regionals over the weekend.

They opened the tournament in Swift Current with a 6-1 win over Delisle.

They added a 1-0 win over Maymont in the gold medal match when Pilani Siwela scored from the penalty spot.

The Laurels will head to Provincials in Lake Lenore next weekend.

The Swift Current Comp. Colts also won both of their games at 3A South Regionals in Regina.

The Colts won the semi-final 5-0 over Weyburn on Saturday. Felix Danquah and Damon Koebel each scored twice, while Matthew Epp added a single. Ethan Arnold earned the shutout for the Colts.

The Colts followed up with a 3-0 win in the championship match over Yorkton Regional. Danquah scored twice and Joel Reimer also found the back of the net. Arnold added a second straight shutout in goal.

The Colts will be in Saskatoon next weekend for 3A Provincials.

The SCCHS Ardens clinched a spot at Provincials with a 4-0 win over the Yorkton Regional Raiders on Friday afternoon. Grade 11 striker Jannae Carlson led the Ardens with two goals and two assists.

Bryn Haubrich and MJ Anderson also scored, while Kaitlyn Berggren and Juliana Serrano Martinez picked up assists.

Juliana Whalen earned the shutout in goal.

Saturday, the Ardens took an early lead on a Carlson goal, but lost 4-1 to the Weyburn Eagles.

The Ardens will head to Prince Albert for 3A Provincials on Friday and Saturday.

The Herbert Laurels’ season ended at 1A Girls Regionals in Dalmeny. They won their opener 1-0 over Moosomin, but lost in the semi-final on to Middle Lake on Saturday.
