Former Broncos returning to Swift Current

After an 0-2 start to the season, the Swift Current Broncos made a pair of moves on Wednesday to bring a two players back to Swift Current.

The Broncos claimed defenseman Matt Stanley off of waivers from the Lethbridge Hurricanes. The 6’2’’ overage defenseman registered 11 points in 67 games with the Broncos and Hurricanes last season. He was selected by the Broncos in the 12th round of the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft.

The Broncos now have six overage players on their roster, a number that will eventually have to be trimmed to three.

The Broncos also sent an eighth round pick to the Hurricanes for 18-year-old forward Owen Blocker, who was the Broncos’ second round pick in 2015. The 6’2’’ forward had seven points in 58 games last season.

Both players appeared in 16 playoff games with the Hurricanes last season as Stanley finished with four points and Blocker added three assists as the Hurricanes were eliminated in the Eastern Conference Final by the Broncos.

Stanley and Blocker were involved in the blockbuster trade last January that brought Stuart Skinner, Giorgio Estephan, and Tanner Nagel to the Broncos.
