Switzers top Estevan Team Roping

The Canadian Cowboys Association was in Estevan on August 31 – September 1 where the Southwest success in Team Roping continued when three of the top six teams came from the area.

Hazenmore’s Ben and Chanse Switzer won the event in 5.5 seconds for $2,140. Waldeck’s Scott McLeod and Kevin Dunham (Souris, MB) were second in 5.9 seconds for $1,771. Mankota’s Shawn Williamson and Swift Current’s Blaine Switzer followed in sixth spot in 7.4 seconds for $369.

Chanse Switzer lasted eight seconds on Show Rooster to place second in Bull Riding for a $726 payday.

Williamson was also second in Estevan in Tie Down Roping in 10.5 seconds for $712.

Maple Creek’s Janae Wilson led a Southwest trio in Junior Girls Barrel Racing in second spot in 16.08 seconds for $275. Cassidy Gordon, also from Maple Creek, was third in 16.1 seconds for $183. Val Marie’s McKenna Legault placed fourth in 16.19 seconds for $91.

Maple Creek’s Blake Link added a second-place finish in Novice Bareback with 66 points for $136.

Swift Current’s Jane Corey placed third in Ladies Barrel Racing in 15.8 seconds for $887.

Swift Current’s Timothy Costello added a fifth place finish in Saddle Bronc when he rode Campfire for 73 points and $171.

The CCA will be in Val Marie on Sept. 14-15 for the Bob Larson Memorial Rodeo.
