Bronco scouting staff features just one returning scout from championship season

Ten of the 11 scouts working for the Swift Current Broncos this season will be entering their first campaign identifying players for the defending Western Hockey League champions.

Yesterday, the Broncos announced on their website they have named the new scouting staff who will be working with newly hired Broncos Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Dean Brockman.

The lone hold over from the former scouting staff is Regina’s Dennis Ulmer who has served as the Broncos scout for Saskatchewan since 2003. Ulmer had a three decade association with Notre Dame in Wilcox as a teacher, coach, principal and administrator.

New to the Broncos scouting staff are:
Dean Moisan – Lloydminster, AB
He is presently the Director of Player Personnel for the Bonnyville Pontiacs of the Alberta Junior Hockey League. He was the Director of Player Personnel and Head Scout for the Lloydminster Bobcats during their RBC run in 2015-16. Moisan spent two years as a Head Scout with the Humboldt Broncos of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League and another three additional years as a scout with the organization.

Craig Anderson – Brandon
He worked as a scout for the Edmonton Oil Kings over the past nine years. He is also the Head Scout and Assistant GM with the Winkler Flyers of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.

Chad Leslie – Virden, MB
Spent 2015-18 as the Manitoba regional scout for the Saskatoon Blades. Leslie was the Assistant Coach/Director of Player Personnel of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League’s Virden Oil Capitals in 2012-13. He was also the Assistant Coach of the SJHL’s Estevan Bruins from 2009-2011 and was interim Head Coach in 2010-11.

Kerry Gladson- Surrey, BC
He was the B.C. Scout for the Saskatoon Blades for the four year period of 2014-18. He is a Director at the West Coast Hockey Prep Camp.

Blaine Shackleton – Medicine Hat
He has scouted for the past 14 years with Canmore Eagles of the AJHL, while also scouting the past four years for the Chase Heat of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League. On the bench he served as an assistant coach of the AJHL’s Canmore Eagles in 2010-2012, and was assistant coach of the Zone One team at the 2016 Alberta Winter Games.

Chris Olson – Saskatoon
After he concluded his SJHL and University of Saskatchewan Huskies playing career, he transitioned into coaching senior and minor hockey in Saskatchewan for the next 16 years.

Steve March – St. Albert
Marsh will assume a scouting role after serving as the head coach of the Northern Alberta Xtreme (Canadian Sport School Hockey League) Elite 15’s in 2015-18, and he was an assistant coach with the Sherwood Park Bantam AAA team during 2012-15.

Matt Green – Edmonton
Green was previously an intern for International Scouting Services, primarily focusing on the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft.

Tyler Oswald – Calgary
Oswald served as an assistant coach of the Calgary Northstars Midget AAA team while finishing up his degree in Sport Management at Mount Royal University in Calgary. He is the Head Goaltending Consultant for Goalie Development Inc. Oswald saw 38 games of action with the Winkler Flyers of the MJHL in the 2011-2013 seasons.

Dan Ruggiero – Kelowna
He was the Scouting and Education Consultant for the BCHL’s West Kelowna Warriors from 2009-14, and previously scouted for the Langley Hornets and Nanaimo Clippers. He boasts a long coaching resume in the minor hockey system in Trail, BC (1978-1980, 1982-85), Pacific Coast Minor Hockey (1981-82, 1988-89), and the Kelowna Minor Hockey Association (2000-2012).

Last month the Broncos tapped former Spokane Chiefs regional scout Gary Aubin to serve as the Broncos Director of Player Personnel.
