Swift Current’s Griffin Wilson tied for fourth in the Junior Boys Division at a Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour stop at the Moon Lake Golf and Country Club over the Canada Day long weekend.
Wilson, 17, finished eight shots off the lead with rounds of 78 and 84 for his lowest finish in four Saskatchewan MJT stops this season. Saskatoon’s Keighton McNab won the 12-player division with rounds of 78 and 76.
Two Swift Current golfers had top-20 finishes in the Juvenile Boys Division. Ethan Fizell placed eighth with rounds of 77 and 86. Gaige Calkins was 20th after he posted an 84 on day one and a 96 on day two.
Ryan McCleary was the lone Southwest golfer in action in the 21-player Bantam Boys Division. He finished 12th with a 96 and an 86 to finish 22 shots off the lead.
The next MJT stop in Saskatchewan will be the MJT CPGA of Saskatchewan Junior Championship at Dakota Dunes Golf Links on July 23-24.
The MJT will return to Swift Current on August 25-26 at the Elmwood Golf & Country Club.
Shaunavon’s Hannah MacNeil was also in Elbow for the 100th Saskatchewan Amateur Women’s Championship over the weekend. She placed sixth out of nine golfers at 33-over-par over three rounds of golf.
MacNeil shot an 81 on Friday, a 78 on Saturday, and then finished the weekend with an 87 to finish nine shots back of the winner, Saskatoon’s Carla Odnokan (72-78-78).
