Southwest dominates Barrel Racing at Couttsgrass Rodeo

The Southwest had a dominating weekend in Barrel Racing at the Couttsgrass Rodeo on June 15-17.

Ladies Barrel Racing was the top event for the Southwest as some of the area’s up and coming stars took three of the top four spots. Mankota’s Kassidy Williamson won the event in 15.53 seconds for $1,134. Karli Cowie, also from Mankota, was second in 15.61 seconds for $986. Eastend’s Bailee Humphrey was not far behind in fourth spot in 15.81 seconds for $690.

The Southwest also had three Maple Creek cowgirls in the pay window in Junior Girls Barrel Racing, led by an event win from Logan Resch in 15.96 seconds for $375. Janae Wilson followed in third spot in 16.36 seconds for $181 and Cassidy Gordon was sixth in 16.9 seconds for $64.

Maple Creek’s Blake Link added a third win for the Southwest when he won Novice Bareback with 65 points for $480.

Waldeck’s Tuftin McLeod placed second in Tie Down Roping in Coutts. He finished in 10.4 seconds for $699. Lucky Lake’s Tyler Getz placed fifth in 11.6 seconds for $262.

Maple Creek’s Adam Gilchrist placed third in Saddle Bronc with 71 points on War Crazy to pocket $327.

He also placed third in Steer Wrestling in 8.1 seconds for $403. Waldeck’s Tee McLeod was sixth in 19.2 seconds for $106.

Adam Gilchrist hit the pay window in a third event when he worked with Tyler Gilchrist to place sixth in Team Roping in 13.7 seconds for $320.

Maple Creek’s James Perrin added a fourth-place finish in Junior Steer Riding after a 69-point effort for $64.

The CCA will have stops in Foremost, AB, Eston, and Maple Creek this weekend.
