Wilson wins at Western Days

A trio of Maple Creek cowgirls led the way for the Southwest at Western Days in Unity on June 2-3.

Lily Wilson, Cassidy Gordon, and Sydney Murphy swept the top three spots in Junior Girls Barrel Racing in Unity. Wilson won the event in 19.02 seconds for $226. Gordon was second in 19.12 seconds for $170 and Murphy was third in 19.23 seconds for $113.

A pair of Southwest cowboys were in the Saddle Bronc money. Swift Current’s Timothy Costello was second with a 74-point ride on Hammerstone for $397. Piapot’s Casey Bertram rode Anvil Head for 68 points to place fifth for $149.

Maple Creek’s Brady Bertram added a second-place showing in Bareback with 75 points on Moody Hills for $360.

Lancer’s Cole Hartman also placed second in Bull Riding when he totaled 52 points on Blue By You for $1,060.

Three Southwest duos won money in Team Roping, led by Mankota’s Shawn Williamson and Swift Current’s Blaine Switzer in 8.3 seconds in second spot for $1,278. Right behind them in third were Waldeck’s Tee and Scott McLeod in 11.8 seconds for $1,012. Swift Current’s Blaine Oddan and Keith Folk followed in fifth place in 14.2 seconds for $479.

Three Southwest cowboys roped in some money in Tie Down Roping at Western Days. Waldeck’s Tuftin McLeod placed third in 10.6 seconds for $519. Tyce McLeod followed in a fourth place tie in 10.7 seconds for $314. Val Marie’s Wyatt Hayes was sixth in 11.0 seconds for $136.

Maple Creek’s James Perrin tied for third in Junior Steer Riding with 70 points for $48.
There were also three Southwest cowboys in the Steer Wrestling money. Val Marie’s Riley Hayes placed fourth in 8.2 seconds for $342. Waldeck’s Tee McLeod and Kyle’s Harrison Hantelman tied for fifth in 8.7 seconds for $171.

Shaunavon’s Haley Glasrud earned a fifth place finish in Ladies Barrel Racing in 18.11 seconds for $538. Maple Creek’s Hallie Anderson followed in seventh spot in 18.28 seconds for $244.

This week’s CCA rodeo schedule includes stops in Coutts, AB, Pilot Butte, and Radville.
