Broncos miss opportunity in Brandon

The Swift Current Broncos allowed six of the final seven goals during an inopportune 6-3 loss in Brandon Friday.

Trailing Moose Jaw by one point, the Broncos missed a chance to take over top spot when the Warriors lost to the Prince Albert Raiders.

The Broncos led 2-0 on first-period goals from Kaden Elder and Beck Malentsyn, while shorthanded.

Brandon tied the game with quick goals from Cole Reinhardt and Evan Weinger before Tyler Steenbergen restored the Bronco lead with his 46th goal and 100th point of the season. Weinger tied the game again before the end of the second period.

The Wheat Kings took over in the third period with goals from Ty Lewis and Linden McCorrister before Weinger scored into the empty net to complete the hat trick.

Stuart Skinner took the loss with 27 saves on 32 shots to fall to 29-19-3-1. Logan Thompson made 21 saves on 24 shots to improve to 30-22-1-2.

The Broncos fell to 47-15-4-2, while Brandon improved to 37-26-3-2, three points back of Regina for third in the East Division with a game in hand.

The Broncos will look to close ground on top spot when they visit the Moose Jaw Warriors on Saturday.
