Former Wildcats help Huskies to Canada West final

Three former members of the Swift Current Diamond Energy Wildcats helped the University of Saskatchewan Huskies women’s hockey team advance to the Canada West championship series.

Friday, Hodgeville’s Brooklyn Haubrich notched the game winning goal in a 2-0 win over the visiting University of British Columbia Thunderbirds.

Saturday, Swift Current’s Chloe Smith netted the series winner in a 2-1 win over the Thunderbirds. The goals was assisted by Gull Lake’s Kayla Kirwan.

The Huskies will now visit the University of Manitoba Bisons in the best-of-three Canada West championship series.

The Huskies have also clinched a spot at Nationals, which will be hosted by the Western Mustangs in London, ON.

Smith is in her rookie season with the Huskies and has six points in 26 games. Kirwan is in the midst of her second season with the Huskies and has four points and a plus-13 rating in 27 games. Haubrich has 10 points and a plus-13 rating in 28 games during her third season with the Huskies. Former Wildcats goaltender Jasey Book (Loreburn) is in her second season with the Huskies and has a 1.48 goals against average in four appearances this season.
