The Swift Current Broncos let a two-goal third-period lead slip away in a 4-3 overtime loss to the host Medicine Hat Tigers Saturday.
The Broncos allowed the final three goals of the game as they tied the Moose Jaw Warriors with 89 points atop the Western Hockey League standings, although Moose Jaw now holds four games in hand.
Ryan Jevne’s second goal of the game lifted the Tigers to the overtime win as they prevented the weekend sweep during a home-and-home set. The Broncos had won 6-2 in Swift Current on Friday.
Jevne gave the Tigers the lead with a first-period power play goal.
Glenn Gawdin tied the game early in the second period as scored in an eighth straight game with his 51st of the season.
The Broncos took control of the game with goals 2:13 apart from Aleksi Heponiemi and Artyom Minulin for a 3-1 lead.
The Broncos were unable to secure the win though as Bryan Lockner and Elijah Brown scored for the Tigers to force overtime.
Stuart Skinner moved to 11-3-1-0 since joining the Broncos with 34 saves on 38 shots. Michael Bullion improved to 13-12-3-0 with 28 saves on 31 shots with a bounce back outing after getting pulled one night earlier.
The Broncos moved to 42-13-4-1 and fell to 5-4 in games decided in the overtime period. Medicine Hat improved to 28-25-7-0 and remain first in the Central Division.
The Broncos will now gear up for a huge visit from the Moose Jaw Warriors on Wednesday.
