Seven Swift Current United Soccer Club teams were in Regina for the FCR Winterfest indoor soccer tournament over the weekend.
The U13 United Boys won four straight matches to win gold in Regina. They defeated FC Excelsior 2-0 on Friday to open the tournament. They moved to 2-0 Saturday with a 2-1 win over Saskatoon Hollandia. The U13 Boys concluded the round robin with a 5-1 win over FCR Marino.
They took on YUFC Manchesters in Sunday’s final and won 3-2 to claim the Winterfest tournament title.
The U17 Girls also made it to the championship final before placing second overall. They won their opener Friday evening 2-1 over the Saskatoon Aurora Force. They added a 4-0 win over Regina QC United on Saturday and then tied Yorkton United FC 0-0 on Sunday.
The U17 Girls rematched with Yorkton on Sunday afternoon in the championship match and lost 2-1 in overtime.
The U15 Girls had a strong showing with a 2-1 record to just miss the playoffs. They defeated the Saskatoon Lakewood Pride 2-0 on Friday to open the tournament. The U15 Girls added a second win when they topped the Saskatoon Aurora Horizon 1-0 on Saturday. They dropped their final round robin game 2-0 to Saskatoon Hollandia Gorges.
The U13 Girls finished with a 1-1-1 record at Winterfest. They lost their opener 1-0 to Bonivital on Friday. They rebounded Saturday with a 3-1 win over Regina QC Green.
The U13 Girls concluded the round robin with a 0-0 draw against Saskatoon Hollandia Voswinkel.
The U15 Boys won once in three outings at Winterfest. They won their opener 3-1 over Lloydminster’s Meridian FC. The U15 United Boys dropped to 1-1 with a 6-1 loss to Excelsior Regina on Saturday. They dropped their final match 2-0 to FCR Indigo later that day.
The U11 Boys also won once in three attempts in Regina. They lost their opener 1-0 to Regina’s FCR Slate on Friday. They responded with a 2-1 win over FCR Azul Saturday. Their tournament concluded in a 3-1 loss to FCNW Kwapis.
The U17 Boys lost all three of their matches in Regina. They dropped their opener 5-0 to Excelsior Regina on Friday. The U17 Boys fell 5-1 to Saskatoon Hollandia Sirman in their second match. They finished the weekend with a 1-0 loss to Hollandia Chen.
