Gull Lake’s Taylor Kirwan has earned another opportunity to represent her country after being named to the 23-player Canadian National Women’s Under-18 Team.
The U18 National Team will take part in the 2018 IIHF U18 Women’s World Championship in Dmitrov, Russia on Jan. 6-13.
Kirwan is currently fifth in Saskatchewan Female Midget AAA Hockey League scoring with 14 points in 11 games this season to lead all league defenseman in scoring. She previously wore the maple leaf in a three-game series against the United States in Lake Placed, NY this past August.
She was recently named the Most Sportsmanlike Player while helping Team Saskatchewan place fourth at the 2017 National Women’s Under-18 Championship in Quebec City.
Canada will open the tournament on Jan. 6 against the host team from Russia. Canada has won the U18 Women’s World Championships four times, most recently in 2014, and placed second six times since the tournament’s inception in 2008.
Kirwan, 17, is currently in her fourth full season with the Wildcats after dressing for 10 games as an affiliate player in 2013-14. She has 21 goals, 35 assists, and 54 penalty minutes in 94 regular season games. The 5’8’’ defenseman also has 17 points in 24 career playoff games.
The Wildcats (4-6-0-2) will host the Battlefords Stars (3-9-0-0) for two games this weekend.
