Patience and hard work finally paid off for Swift Current Broncos captain Glenn Gawdin when the Calgary Flames announced Thursday that the National Hockey League team had signed him to a three-year entry level contract.

The overage forward was originally drafted by the St. Louis Blues in the 2015 NHL Draft but never signed with the team. He was invited to training camp with the Flames this past summer.

The Richmond, BC product has gotten off to an exceptional start to his final WHL season with 40 points, trailing only linemates Tyler Steenbergen and Aleksi Heponiemi in league scoring. The 6’1’’ centre has 14 goals, 26 assists, 18 penalty minutes, and a plus-29 rating in 18 games this season.

Gawdin has a total of 228 points in 263 career regular season games with the Broncos after being drafted fifth overall in the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft. He also has 13 points in 24 career playoff contests.

The Broncos are in Medicine Hat Friday to visit the Medicine Hat Tigers, before returning home Saturday to host the Calgary Hitmen.
