Lind and Steenbergen lead WHL past Russia

Shaunavon’s Kole Lind helped lead Team WHL to a 7-0 win over Russia to open the 2017 CIBC Canada Russia Series.

The Kelowna Rockets forward had two goals and one assist in the victory Monday in Moose Jaw. He scored the opening goal on the power play in the first period, added another goal in the second period, and then set up Cody Glass in the third period.

Swift Current Broncos forward Tyler Steenbergen knocked home a rebound for the fifth goal late in the middle stanza. Steenbergen and Lind led Team WHL with five shots on goal apiece.

Everett Silvertips goaltender Carter Hart stopped all 20 shots he faced for the shutout.

Game two will be played Tuesday in Swift Current. Broncos defenseman Artyom Minulin suited up for Russia, while head coach Manny Viveiros and athletic trainer Jamie LeBlanc were both on the bench for Team WHL.
