One night after suffering their worst loss of the season, the Swift Current Broncos scored three unanswered goals in the third period to defeat the visiting Red Deer Rebels 4-2.

“It was a really good bounce back game tonight,” said Kaden Elder. “We played the full sixty and we played the right way. Our systems were on point tonight and that’s definitely what got us the win.”

The Broncos trailed 2-1 heading in the third period before Tyler Steenbergen tied it only 42 seconds in the period. Kaden Elder scored 5:20 later when he deposited a rebound for his fourth goal of the season, which stood up as the winner.

It was Elder’s first goal since October 10.

“Oh yeah it’s nice to get one in after a lot of chances here. If I just keep working hard then hopefully the bounces will keep coming way.”

Steenbergen added an empty net goal, his league leading 22nd goal of the season.

Red Deer received goals from Grayson Pawlenchuk and Jared Dmytriw. Aleksi Heponiemi had answered for the Broncos early in the second period to tie the game 1-1.

Logan Flodell improved to 10-2-1-0 with 22 saves on 24 shots. Ethan Anders took the loss with 25 saves on 28 shots for the Rebels.

The Broncos continue to have the best winning percentage in the Western Hockey League, but sit third in the East Division with an 11-3-1-0 record. Red Deer dropped to 8–9-1-0.

Next up for the Broncos will be the 2017 Canada Russia Super Series this week when Tyler Steenbergen suits up for Team WHL and Artyom Minulin skates for Russia. Game two will be Tuesday in Swift Current.

The Broncos will visit the Saskatoon Blades on Friday and then host the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Saturday.
