Gull Lake’s Taylor Kirwan scored the opening goal to help lead Saskatchewan to their first win at the 2017 National Women’s Under-18 Championship in Quebec City Thursday.
The Swift Current Diamond Energy Wildcats’ defenseman scored 4:37 into regulation as Team Saskatchewan defeated Quebec 3-2 to improve to 1-1 at Nationals.
Ryan Fontaine made 33 saves on 35 shots to help Saskatchewan to the win over the host team. Joelle Fiala and Jordan Holmes also scored for Team Saskatchewan.
Kirwan, forward Taylor Lind (Shaunavon), and head coach Terry Pavely (Swift Current) are all representing their province at Nationals.
Saskatchewan will face Manitoba (0-2) on Friday afternoon.
