Aleah Nickel’s prowess on the wrestling mat will take her around the world when she heads to Japan to represent her country next week.
The Swift Current athlete will be one of 13 members of the Wrestling Canada Lutte Cadet contingent that will participate in the 2017 Saori Cup in Tsu, Japan on November 4-5. The tournament will be followed by a training camp at the Sports Center of Tsu Saorina from Nov. 5-10.
Nickel is slated to represent her country in the 57kg category and is one of 11 female wrestlers on the team, which will be coached by Kimin Kim, Frank Mensah, and Ken Burgess.
Team selection was open to Cadet Trials and Canada Games gold and silver medalists. Nickel won silver at the 2017 Canada Summer Games in Winnipeg over the summer.
She previously represented her country at the Cadet Pan American Championships in Lima, Peru in 2016.
