The Swift Current Broncos announced Wednesday that the team has signed 17-year-old defenseman Christian Riemer to a WHL Standard Player Agreement.

“We are very pleased with what we saw out of Christian during training camp,” said Director of Player Personnel Manny Viveiros in a team issued statement. “He has really matured, gotten stronger and he has very good shot at making our hockey club. We watched his development last year and he has certainly improved in many areas very quickly. We are happy to have him.”

A 17-year old product of Regina, Riemer was listed by the Broncos last year and participated in 2017 training camp, impressing coaching staff with a strong showing.

Riemer skated for the Swift Current Home Hardware Legionnaires last season in the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League and racked up 20 points (9g-11a) in 40 games. He recently made his Broncos debut in Tuesday night’s rookie game against the Moose Jaw Warriors, helping guide Swift Current to a 4-0 shutout win.

The Broncos are in Riemer’s hometown today for a preseason game against the Moose Jaw Warriors.
