Four Southwest baseball teams were in action over the weekend at Baseball Sask Senior Provincials.
The Gull Lake Greyhounds and Shaunavon Badgers were in Windhorst for the Senior AA Tier 5 Provincial championships and both advanced to the championship final. Gull Lake won the all-Southwest final 11-4 to clinch the provincial title.
The Greyhounds opened the weekend with a 4-1 win over the Kenaston Cannons.
They followed up with a 12-2 win over the Beechy Breakers. Gull Lake advanced past Kenaston 10-5 in the semi-final.
The Badgers also got out to a winning start with a 7-5 win over the host Windhorst Pirates. They dropped their second game 8-7 to the Regina Red Dogs. They defeated Regina 2-0 in the semi-final.
The Swift Current Yard Goats and Cabri River Rats were both in the Yorkton for the 2017 Senior AA Tier 2 Provincials but neither team was able to reach the playoffs.
Friday, the Yard Goats dropped their opener 5-2 to the Kindersley Clippers. They lost 6-3 to the Carlyle Cardinals to open the day Saturday. The Yard Goats got into the win column with a 6-5 win over the Oxbow Chiefs to wrap up the weekend.
The Cabri River Rats lost their first game Friday by a 5-3 tally to the Yorkton Yankees. They also lost 12-5 on Saturday to the Border City Blue Jays and then fell 16-5 to the Estevan Tower Wolves to conclude the weekend.
