Maffenbeier wins national title

Swift Current’s Shawn Maffenbeier clinched his first national title in Barrie, Ontario on Sunday.

The MX101 FXR Yamaha Team rider won the MX2 class for the sixth time this season to win the season title. He had entered the final with an 11-point lead and started the day as the fastest qualifier and won the first moto for a 20-point lead.

He entered the final moto of the year with a comfortable lead and placed third to clinch his first National MX2 title.

The 2017 MX2 Point Standings after 10 rounds had Maffenbeier with 468 points, followed by Dylan Wright with 424 points.
