Swift Current will be the site of the 2017 Mosquito AA Tier I Provincial Championships this weekend.
The Swift Current Mosquito 57’s will be one of seven teams in action, joined by the Muenster Red Sox, Weyburn Beavers, Prince Albert Royals, Battlefords Beavers, Lumsden Cubs, and Lloydminster Twins.
The 57’s will open the tournament with two games on Friday. They will face Lumsden at 10:30 a.m. and then will collide with the Lloydminster Twins at 3:30 p.m. at Sharon Hogg Field.
The opening ceremonies will take place Friday at 6 p.m., which will include the unveiling of a commemorative plaque honouring the late Sharon Hogg as well as the opening pitch from her husband Neil Hogg.
The 57’s were in Melville this past weekend and finished with a 1-2-1 record. They lost their opener 13-10 to the Sask 5 Giants, followed by a 20-13 loss to the Regina White Sox. The 57’s rebounded with an 11-11 tie against Muenster, led by two home runs from Kyrell Adair and a triple from Makstr McIntyre.
The 57’s concluded the weekend with a 20-8 win over Lumsden led by home runs from McIntyre and Ty Switzer.
